Edible Landscape
News!
We are coming back to you to boast another success! Our foundation was the winner of the grant programme "Active Citizens - National Fund", run by a consortium consisting of the Stefan Batory Foundation, Stocznia Foundation and the Academy of Civic Organisations Foundation, funded by the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism.
On the 4th of January 2022, we signed a grant agreement 🙌 Work on the preparation of the project has been going on for almost a year. We assure you that in the coming months, we will flood you with handfuls of interesting information and inspiration.
We hope you will join us in the activities we have planned for the next.... 2 years! 🤗 Let's be active citizens! 💚
March 2022
The Edible Landscape Project (#EdibleLandscape) is in full swing! We have launched an information campaign and are promoting the project through various channels. In March, a series of meetings were held with residents of the Gietrzwałd municipality.
On the 2nd of March, we visited the Senior Citizens' Club in Sząbruk. We showed some of the educational boards, talked about the project and gave a lecture on ecological gardening. We also arranged a visit to the Forest Educational Glade "Permaculture Station" to prepare seedlings together, which we will then plant in the gardens we are establishing! 💚
On the 30th of March, we visited the "Pod Lipą" Club in Unieszewo, where together with the mayor of Unieszewo and the newly formed Rural Housewives' Circle, we talked about the projects we intend to carry out in this beautiful village 😍

The March awareness campaign of the Edible landscape project continued in Łajsy and Unieszewo.
March 17th in Łajzy: we participated in the Gietrzwałd Active Meetings. The meeting was attended by entities and people involved in communal social activities - including representatives of NGOs, Village Councils, schools, community centres, cultural institutions, and representatives of the local government. The project was pleasantly received, and ideas for further garden locations emerged!
On March 27, we attended a meeting of the Unieszewo Winter Swimming Group, which uses Barwiny beach - the one we intend to develop together. We presented the design concept, set a deadline for the garden and completed the list of plants dreamed up by the users of this beach. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Unieszewo Association of Very Active People "Tuba".

We completed the March awareness campaign in the city of Olsztyn. Although the project is carried out in the suburbs, we also want to involve the inhabitants of the surrounding towns and villages. On March 30, we visited the Building School Complex in Olsztyn.
We presented the main objectives of the project, educational charts and books related to edible plants to landscape architecture students. We took the opportunity to evaluate the works of students participating in the Spring Florist Competition. Thank you for your warm welcome to the school and your willingness to get involved in the project! 😍

April 2022
On 26 April 2022, we paid a visit to the School and Kindergarten Complex in Biesal, where we will soon build another school garden with this wonderful team as part of the Edible landscape project. We are already looking forward to implementation and working together!
We will set up the garden this coming Monday (May 16, 2022) from 8:00 AM. We invite all residents to join this initiative! 🙏 Let's help the students create a place designed for gardening education and integration. Join us! 💚
On 27 April 2022, the Forest Educational Glade "Permaculture Station" in Sząbruk hosted members of the Senior+ Club from Sząbruk. 💛 The President of the Foundation, Mariusz Antolak, showed the ladies around the Foundation's community demonstration garden, and as part of the practical part of the meeting, we made tomato, kale and zinnia seedlings, which will soon be planted in community gardens in the Gietrzwałd and Stawiguda municipalities. 🍅
On 28 April 2022, we held a gardening workshop at the Polish Olympians School and Kindergarten Complex in Stawiguda 😊.
Class "1A" did a great job 🏅 We were impressed by the commitment and diligence of the young gardeners and gardeners 👩🌾👨🌾 Pupils and students described the activities as 'fantastic', which only reinforces our belief that this project makes sense and gives us the strength to continue 💚
We sowed and planted vegetables and herbs in the boxes. In June, we are planning another workshop and planting food-caping plots together in front of the school.
We believe that gardening can be played with at any age! This was proved by the kindergarten group from this establishment as well! We sowed and planted vegetables and strawberries in boxes. In the garden, we sowed sunflowers. We also set up an experimental potato crop in special pots to observe how their underground tubers grow. And this is just the beginning!
May 2022
We are beginning the implementation of community gardens in the Gietrzwałd municipality 😍 Here's the May 'timetable' with the dates of our meetings. May promises to be extremely interesting and intensive. Join us! Let's be active citizens together! 😇

We set up another edible community garden May 10-11 at the School and Kindergarten Complex in Sząbruk 💛.
We could do this thanks to the involvement of local residents, parents of the pupils, the pupils themselves and, as always, the reliable Sząbruk voluntary fire brigade. 😊
On May 10, we met for a gardening workshop and prepared the area for planting. We unclogged the soil, assembled boxes for growing vegetables, and cleaned and levelled the area.
On May 11, together with the school students, we finished the work started the previous day!
We planted hundreds of plants. 🌱🌿🌺 Most of them were edible, but we also extended the garden with an ornamental part. We planted peas, radishes, lettuces, onions, cabbages and kale in boxes. We also planted rhubarb, Kamchatka berries, currants, raspberries, gooseberries, apple trees and mullein trees... We will soon show you how the garden looks a few weeks after it has been established!
May has a frenetic pace for us! On May 15, we set up an edible community garden on the beach in Naterki. 🌊 We planted many fruit trees and bushes. 🌳🌱
Users of this place will be able to treat themselves to some delicious fruit in a while 🍒😋 We also set up some raised boxes for growing herbs, strawberries, strawberries and annual vegetables. We also planted ornamental plants and perennials with edible flowers! 🤓
On the 16th of May, it was time for Biesal! 😉 At the School and Kindergarten Complex in Biesal, we set up an edible community garden from the very beginning of the morning 🎍 Together with the school students, we set up an interesting educational space here 🎓🍏
Like the other gardens, we planted hundreds of plants 😍 Both edible (most of them!) and ornamental 😇 We built wigwams to grow peas and beans. 🤓 We'll soon show you the changes we'll make in the garden over the next few weeks. We can't wait to see the results ourselves 🙌
On the 22nd of May, we once again came to Unieszewo! 🌞 The weather was again more friendly to the plants being planted than to us, but we did great. 🌿 We planted another edible community garden as part of the Edible landscape project 🌱
We planted currants, chokeberries, gooseberries, raspberries, mulberries, viburnum, apple trees, pear trees, cherry trees, and rowan trees. We have also traditionally set up some raised beds here to grow herbs, strawberries, and annual vegetables. After the hard work, it was time to feast by the fire! ᾕIt brings a tear to the eye that this is the last garden planned for this year under this grant. 😢
Thanks to @unieszewo for the photo documentation 📸
June 2022
On June 9, a workshop and an exploratory walk took place at the Forest Educational Glade "Permaculture Station" in Sząbruk. 😇 We managed to shoot into the weather window between storms! ⚡ Thank you for visiting, and please come again! ❤️
We had the opportunity to test out our wonderful new educational board display racks, which also act as vine supports. They are an amazing gift from our sponsor company, Garden Jewellery (Biżuteria Ogrodowa)!
July 2022
On July 9, Mariusz Antolak was a guest at the premises of the 'Nowalijki' housewives' circle in Nowa Wieś (Purda municipality). As part of the meeting, he showed the village community gardens which have so far been created as part of the Edible landscape project in the municipalities of Gietrzwałd and Stawiguda.
In addition, a board exhibition on organic gardening and edible plants was presented. As part of the exploratory walk, details were also agreed on the development of the area next to the Circle's headquarters, which we will tackle together next spring! We are already looking forward to it!

On April 24 we celebrated Earth Day at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. We conducted gardening workshops for students of the Jan Liszewski Elementary School No. 29 in Olsztyn and the United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF Elementary School No. 33 in Olsztyn.
Together with the students, we created several hundred cherry tomato seedlings. We searched for edible plants on the lawns of Kortow and presented educational boards created as part of the Edible landscape project with recipes for dishes made from weeds and trees.
We would like to thank the Center for Cooperation with the Social and Economic Environment of UWM in Olsztyn for the invitation!
You can listen to more about the event on the UWM FM Radio broadcast (click) and read about it on the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn website (click).
